BOTSWANA NF SUPPORTS UPRISING

The Botswana National Front (BNF) has ‘thrown its weight’ behind the ‘uprising’ planned for next Tuesday (12 April 2011).

It said, ‘The people's revolution could not have come at a better time than now. We believe Mswati III has overstayed and should go. He has caused the Swazi people more harm than good.’

In a statement, BNF said, ‘Leaders of Swazi civil society organizations including religious denominations, unions and professional and employers’ associations work against great risks to their own lives and welfare to address the extreme injustices of despotism and royal greed. The people of Swaziland live in constant fear. It is an anachronism that political parties are not allowed in Swaziland.

‘The April 12 revolution seeks to empower Swazi people to directly participate in the formation of their own government through multi-party democratic elections.’

BNF called ‘for the unbanning of all political parties, freedom of speech and association, the lifting of the perpetual state of emergency, the unconditional release of all political prisoners, the unconditional return of all exiles and free trade union organisation.’
