CONFUSION OVER BUSHFIRE BOYCOTT

Is the cultural boycott of Swaziland’s Bushfire Festival still going ahead?

There is confusion because the Swaziland Democracy Campaign (SDC) which originally called for a boycott of the festival, one of the major attractions in the Swazi calendar, later called it off.

Meanwhile, the Swaziland Solidarity Network (SSN), which separately also called for a boycott, confirmed that the boycott was still on.

That’s one group for and one group against. Clearly, the SDC and the SSN need to talk to one another. And what about the large number of other prodemocracy groups working for Swaziland, what do they think?

So it’s confusion all round. Someone needs to make a definitive statement soon. Time is short - the festival runs from 27 – 29 May 2011.
