ALL SWAZI POLICE TO BE ARMED

All Swazi police officers will carry guns and be trained on how to shoot without missing their targets.

As part of newly-appointed police commissioner’s Isaac Magagula new policy to treat ‘clients’ with ‘empathy and courtesy’ and to ‘uphold the highest standards of professionalism in the execution of their duties’, police will be trained on a computerized firing range at a cost of E2.5m.

The shooting practice is part of a crackdown against crime announced by Magagula. There will be in his words ‘zero tolerance’.

Magagula said police officers would now carry guns every time they went out on assignment instead of doing so only on dangerous operations.

According to the Times of Swaziland, the kingdom’s only independent daily newspaper, the E2.5m is a portion of a total of E8.2m set aside for the shooting range and furniture for the Operational Support Service Unit (OSSU).
