POLICE RAID HUMAN RIGHTS LAWYER

Swazi police today (25 September 2010) raided the home of prominent human rights lawyer and activist Sipho ‘Manyovu’ Mnisi.

Peter Kenworthy on his stiffkitten blog reports that 12 to 15 officers from the serious crime unit of the Manzini Regional Headquarters started raiding the house in Manzini’s Ngwane Park, at 7am.

Mnisi was the lawyer who acted for the three Africa Contact representatives and two Foundation for Socio Economic Justice employees when they were detained by the Royal Swazi Police force on 7 September during the recent Global Week of Action for democracy in Swaziland protests.

Mnisi is a high-profiled lawyer in Swaziland who has represented Mario Masuku, President of the People’s United Democratic Movement (PUDEMO), on several occasions.
