NO DATE TO FINISH AIRPORT: OFFICIAL

Nobody knows when Sikhuphe Airport, the vanity project of King Mswati III, will be completed.

Barnabas Dlamini, the illegally-appointed Prime Minister of Swazilamd, admitted this when he also confirmed that his government could not pay an E210,000 bill to contractors at the airport because of ‘cash flow’ problems.

Or put more honestly: the Swazi Government is broke and can’t pay its bills.

‘The cash flow situation that is currently experienced is adversely affecting the construction of Sikhuphe International Airport,’ he told a meeting of editors.

‘This has resulted in payment delays to contractors, which has led to some contractors resorting to slowing-down the works and the temporary standing down of 300 workers.’

He added, ‘These delays in payment would result in further cost escalations and delay the completion of the Sikhuphe International Airport,’ the PM said.

The Times of Swaziland reported Dlamini saying completing the airport’s construction on time was uncertain if the cash flow problems were not addressed.

‘…it is very difficult to commit to a completion date.

‘The Project manager, however, is working with the contractors to propose a revised programme for completion and associated budget,’ he said.

King Mswati, his Prime Minister, and others have continually insisted that the airport was near completion and would be open in 2010 – although the actual finish date has moved as one deadline after another was missed.

Now, we are getting closer to the truth: look forward to having a half completed building site in the middle of the Swaziland countryside for many years to come.
