POLICE BLOCK ROADS TO STOP PROTEST

Hundreds of Swazi police officers and special armed units are on the streets of Swaziland’s capital Mbabane.

Roads leading to a park where protesters gathered have been blocked off.

Earlier today (18 March 2011) the Associated Press reported about 5,000 people had assembled to march on the Prime Minister’s office to protest against government policies and to call for democracy in the kingdom, ruled by King Mswati III, sub-Saharan Africa’s last absolute monarch.
