JAILED ACTIVIST CAN TAKE EXAMS

The Swaziland High Court ordered that Maxwell Dlamini, the student activist presently in jail awaiting trial on explosives charges, should be allowed to sit his examinations.

But, the Swazi correctional services failed to follow the order and Dlamini missed his exam yesterday (9 May 2011).

The order instructed officials from the Correctional Services to release Dlamini, President of the Swaziland National Union of Students, to the University of Swaziland (UNISWA), where he is studying commerce. The Correctional Services said they made a mistake and couldn’t get Dlamini to the exam on time.

UNISWA said it had no objection to allowing Dlamini to write his exams.

Dlamini has another exam scheduled for today. UNISWA has said he can take any missed exams in July.
