SOUTH AFRICA ‘AGREES SWAZI LOAN’

The South African Cabinet has agreed in principle to grant Swaziland a R1,4-billion (US$202-million) loan, the Southern Africa Report (SAR) says.

But, it is waiting to see whether the Swazi Government is willing to put in place a package of austerity measures – that might include public sector wage cuts or retrenchments - before the deal is finalised.

The money is likely to come direct from the South African Government and not be routed through the Southern African Customs Union, as previously reported, (SAR) reports.
