SWAZI HEALTH WORKERS BACK IN COURT

Doctors, nurses and health workers in Swaziland have forced the government to reconsider a decision to cut their on-call allowances. They had threatened a boycott.

The Swaziland Nurses Association had approached the Industrial Court on urgent basis. The A lawyer for the Swazi Government told the court on Friday (9 February 2018) it would negotiate on the matter. The case will resume in court on 9 April 2018.

The government had issued a circular that cut on-call allowances to save E50 million (US$4.2 million) a year from the health budget. Health professions were not consulted before the announcement.
