POLICE BRUTALLY DISRUPTS MEETING

Swaziland police ‘brutally put down’ a meeting today (15 March 2011) of civil society groups held to prepare for a mass protest to be held on Friday. Police are said to be trying to round-up leaders of the protest.

The Swaziland Democracy Campaign (SDC) in a statement says, ‘SDC Swaziland Chapter condemns in the strongest terms the intensified state of terror and police violence in Swaziland as evident in the way police brutally put down a meeting of civil society organisations held at Swaziland National Association of Teachers (SNAT Centre) today.

As we talk, [Tuesday evening] comrades have staged a sit-in at SNAT Centre in solidarity with the SNAT leadership and other leaders who are wanted by police in connection with the meeting. The meeting was to prepare for the 18 March action and the about to be announced activities in Swaziland.’
