ANOTHER ONE THEY MISSED

Here’s another story the Swazi media have missed. Meanwhile, the news media in the United Kingdom have been running with it for days.

A man from Wales was in a car crash in Swaziland. His six-month-old baby son died as a result of his injuries and his Swazi–born wife was seriously injured. While the man, Mervyn Humphreys, was trapped in his car, with his dying son beside him and his wife critically injured, a passer-by reached in the car and stole his wallet and his wife’s handbag.

Mr Humphreys’ car was hit from behind by a truck which pushed it 100m down a road and into other vehicles. Later it was reported that the truck had defective brakes.

So why has nothing about the theft appeared in the Swazi media? I know that the Times of Swaziland knows about the story because a reporter has been accessing the news from the Internet in the same way I have.

The answer to why there is no report is simple. The Swazi police say they have no record of the incident. And in Swaziland nothing happens unless it is officially confirmed by someone in authority.

So, once again, the Swazi media denies Swazi people information about something happening in their own kingdom, even though that information is freely available outside Swaziland.
