COPS FOUND NO TERRORISM EVIDENCE

Evidence is emerging that the Swaziland government is out to get PUDEMO leader Mario Masuku at any cost.

Masuku was the first person to be arrested under King Mswati III’s war against his own people.

On Saturday (15 November 2008) police raided Masuku’s home looking for evidence to link him to terrorism.

But they failed. So, instead they decided to charge him with making comments that support terrorism.

The Times of Swaziland reports today (18 November 2008) that having failed to find evidence of terrorism, the Acting Director of Public Prosecution Mumcy Dlamini amended the charge sheet and instead charged Masuku with making comments that support terrorism.

The Times reports that according to the charge sheet, Masuku is alleged to have ‘solicited support for, or gave support to, the commission of terrorist acts’.

He is alleged to have made these comments during the burial of lawyer Musa ‘MJ’ Dlamini.

Dlamini died at Lozitha bridge in what police have said was an attempt to plant a bomb that exploded prematurely.

Initially, it was reported that the police had charged Masuku under section 5 (2) of the Suppression of Terrorism Act because he was found in possession of literature on weapon making.

The Times also reports that it has information that police are looking at making more arrests emanating from comments made at MJ’s funeral.
