Ntombie Khoza, the Swazi woman fighting her deportation order from Canada, failed to turn up for her tribunal hearing on Tuesday (18 January 2011).
A source said Khoza made her own decision not to attend and would now probably not go ahead with her fight to remain in Canada.
Khoza had said she feared for her safety if she was forced to return to Swaziland, which is ruled by King Mswati III, sub-Saharan Africa’s last absolute monarch.
Khoza said she had previously been an activist with the Ngwane National Liberation Congress (NNLC), a proscribed organisation in Swaziland, where all political parties are banned.
