Textile sector on brink as costs surge, orders shrink

By Stanley Khumalo, Times of eSwatini, 16 February 2026

SOURCE

MATSAPHA: The textile and apparel industry is warning of imminent retrenchments as operating costs spiral beyond sustainability.

This sector employs more than 22 000 emaSwati and contributes about 7.6 per cent to gross domestic product (GDP).

Factory owners claim a convergence of pressures, a 15 per cent value-added tax (VAT) on water introduced on February 1, 2026, steep electricity tariff increases effective April 1 and a proposed 66.67 per cent salary increment over three years, have pushed the sector to the edge.

On Tuesday, the Eswatini Energy Regulatory Authority (ESERA) approved an average electricity tariff increase of 13.61 per cent for 2026/27. While this is lower than the 20.67 per cent sought by the Eswatini Electricity Company (EEC), the structure of the hike has rattled manufacturers.

Corporate energy charges and demand charges will each rise by 17 per cent. For textile factories, where electricity accounts for roughly 40 per cent of total expenditure, the textile industry players say the increase strikes at the core of production costs.

The employers argue that the VAT on water further compounds their burden. They claim VAT refunds are only claimable if a business accrues over E900 000 in profits, a threshold many say is now unattainable amid declining orders.

“The cost of doing business is no longer predictable. We are absorbing costs from utilities, rentals, transport and raw materials, yet our selling prices are dictated by buyers outside our borders,” said one industry insider.

South Africa remains the primary market for Eswatini’s garments. However, textile firms report declining orders from major retailers such as TFG Group and Woolworths.

While South Africa’s October retail data showed a 5.8 per cent year-on-year increase in textiles, clothing and footwear sales, industry sources say this growth is largely promotion-driven, with retailers discounting heavily. That, in turn, pushes them to procure at the lowest possible cost.

It is worth noting that South Africa lost 194 000 jobs in retail and trade in 2025, the highest among all industries, based on Statistics South Africa’s report, reflecting constrained consumer spending.

The textile employers said when retailers struggle, they inevitably feel the shock.

Local manufacturers said the impact is visible. Drake Clothing closed last year, leaving about 350 workers jobless. Golden Jubilee Textiles ceased operations, affecting roughly 650 employees, though it has pledged to reopen. In 2023, Kasumi Apparels Textiles closed, costing 1 782 jobs before eventually resuming operations.

Against this backdrop, the Amalgamated Trade Union of Swaziland (ATUSWA) has tabled a wage proposal. Secretary General Wander Mkhonza confirmed the union would push for a three-year increment that would raise average monthly wages from E2 400 to about E3 900.

The union is also seeking cost-of-living adjustments (CoLA), pension coverage and funeral benefits. While acknowledging improvements by some firms that raised hourly rates from E15 to E18, Mkhonza insists workers deserve dignity and security.

Prime Minister facing about R100million fresh scandal

By Zweli Martin Dlamini, Swaziland News, 15 February 2026

SOURCE

MBABANE: Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini will soon face grilling by Parliament after secretly transferring about R100million ($5.1million) to the corruption infested National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) without Parliament and/or Cabinet approval.

It has been disclosed that, the monies were paid by the Government of the United States (US) as a token of appreciation after Eswatini accepted the dumping of dangerous criminals and/or immigrants from the US, previously convicted by their respective countries of murder and child rape among other serious criminal crimes.

But a high level investigation conducted by this Swaziland News uncovered that, after the United States paid about R100million as confirmed by Finance Minister Neal Rijikernberg when addressing Parliament recently, the PM subsequently directed that, the money be transferred to the NDMA, a department under the Deputy Prime Minister’s Office where he previously worked as a Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

But worth-noting, Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini, while working as the CEO of the Disaster Management Agency allegedly failed to account for about R200million as per the report of the Auditor General (AG) Timothy Matsebula, he was subsequently hauled before the Parliament Public Accounts Committee (PAC) but again, failed to clarify the audit queries.

It has been dislcosed that, the PM recently summoned all Principal Secretaries of the various Government Ministries and urged them to work directly and/or take orders from him not their respective Ministers in what appears to be a serious threat by a sitting Prime Minister to the proper administration of the entire Eswatini Government systems.

As a result, Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Finance Vusie Dlamini allegedly colluded with the Prime Minister in the illegal transfer of the about R100million and it is alleged that, after being captured by the PM and urged to disrespect the Finance Minister, the Principal Secretary vigorously opposed Minister Neal Rijikernberg during a recent meeting inside the Cabinet Offices.

SNAT to defend 39 top-up headteachers

By Nokuphila Haji, eSwatini Observer, 16 February 2026

SOURCE

After 39 headteachers were charged by the ministry of education and training for charging top-up fees, the Swaziland National Association of Teachers (SNAT) has resolved to defend them through the Swaziland Association of School Administrators (SASA).

These are headteachers who are members of SNAT.

The Shiselweni region had 18 schools found to be unlawfully charging top-up fees.

There were 10 schools from the Manzini region, seven from Lubombo and four from Hhohho region.

These headteachers met with the SNAT National Executive at the SNAT Centre following the charges laid against them by the ministry for allegedly collecting top-up fees illegally.

SNAT Secretary General Lot Vilakati said the headteachers indicated during the meeting that government grants under the Free Primary Education (FPE) programme and the Orphaned and Vulnerable Children (OVC) scheme were insufficient.

He said teachers were also concerned that the funds paid by government to schools were inadequate, adding that the union supported an increase in FPE funding. He said government needed to increase FPE grants, which was why some headteachers had asked parents to contribute additional fees.

“As SNAT, we say government should be the one paying the topup fees.

The headteachers are not at fault; government is at fault because it is not fully funding pupils’ education in the country, which has forced schools to request top-up fees,” he said.

Vilakati added that the amount government was paying was below what had been recommended by the task team responsible for drafting the free primary education implementation framework.

EU provides technical support to eSwatini’s education sector

Statement, Press and information team of the Delegation to eSwatini, 17 February 2026

SOURCE

In a Team Europe effort, the European Union (EU) together with three EU Member States – Belgium, Finland and France, has partnered with the Ministry of Education and Training to launch the EU-Regional Teachers Initiative for Africa (RITA) Eswatini, an initiative that seeks to avail European expertise to support Eswatini’s transition to Competency-Based Education (CBE) with a strong focus on strengthening teacher training and professional development in the country’s schools.

© EU Eswatini

This partnership, however, does not involve a direct financial donation to the country, but rather the provision of high-level technical expertise to support ongoing education reforms. This technical assistance will focus on five key areas – building capacity for Competency-Based Education; reviewing teacher training curricula to align with CBE and global standards; operationalising the Council of Educators Act; developing CBE syllabi for Grade 8 – 11 learners and establishing a national framework for in-service teacher training.

Speaking during this event held in Mbabane on 13 February 2026, EU Ambassador to Eswatini, Karsten Mecklenburg, expressed gratitude to the three EU Member States - Finland, France and Belgium, for their support to this initiative.

“Education is more than a policy priority; it is a promise to the next generation. A promise that every child, every teacher and every citizen will have an opportunity to learn, to grow and contribute meaningfully to society,” said Ambassador Mecklenburg.

On the other hand, Finnish Ambassador to Eswatini, Satu Lassila, thanked the partnership noting that “it would help in the drive for a knowledge driven future for all.”

In the meantime, the Minister of Education and Training, Owen Nxumalo, expressed gratitude to the EU and its Member States for their commitment to advance education in Eswatini noting that this was a testament to partnership and shared values.

The initiative was launched under the theme: “Empowering Teachers for Eswatini’s Future.” The event was attended by development partners and education stakeholders.

Warders claim EFF eSwatini member refuses to bath

By Kwanele Dlamini, eSwatini News, 14 February 2026

SOURCE

MBABANE: Economic Freedom Fighters Eswatini member Siphosethu Malinga, who was arrested for alleged terrorism in March 2023, claims warders assaulted him for not combing his hair.

On the other hand, His Majesty’s Correctional Services says Malinga does not want to bath yet the facility puts a premium on hygiene.

Malinga was arrested with Swaziland Liberation Movement’s (SWALIMO) son Zweli Simelane and SWALIMO member Mxolisi Simelane. They face three counts of allegedly contravening the Suppression of Terrorism Act, 2008, two of robbery and one of contravening the Passport Act of 1971.

Through his legal representatives, Professor M. Dlamini Attorneys, Malinga wrote to His Majesty’s Correctional Services commissioner general to lodge a complaint. The letter is dated February 5, 2026.

The letter reads: “Our client instructs us that he was severely assaulted by prison officers for not having combed his hair. Since then, the client has been trying to raise the issue with the officer-in-charge at Sidwashini Correctional Services.

“It is common course that it is not the first time that the complainant and other Suppression of Terrorism Act detainees/suspects have complained of similar treatment at the hands of the prison authorities in the past and no action has been taken.”

The letter states that all detainees, including the Suppression of Terrorism Act offences detainees have rights which need to be protected by all citizens of the country, including Correctional officers.

It also states that detainees, including Malinga, are presumed innocent until proven guilty or acquitted in a court of law.

“To compel the detainee to comb his hair when his conscience is against that, is a violation of his basic fundamental rights protected by the Constitution. By this letter, therefore, we demand that you duly investigate this abnormal behaviour by your officers and if the complaints are proved to be true, the officers involved should be subjected to disciplinary action,” further reads the letter.

The letter further urges the Correctional Services to desist from acts of violating the rights of the detainees in any manner whatsoever.

EU report states political situation stable in eSwatini

By Mfanukhona Nkambule, Times Sunday, 3 August 2025

SOURCE

MBABANE: The European Union (EU) has said that the political and security situation in Eswatini remained stable in 2024.

This is despite the fact that the society is still polarised as it is still recovering after the protests of 2021.

This is contained in the 2024 EU’s Annual Report on Human Rights and Democracy.

According to the report, the 2023 assassination of prominent human rights lawyer Thulani Maseko remains a topical issue.

In response to Maseko's murder, the European Parliament (EP) adopted a resolution strongly condemning the killing. The EP called for a prompt, independent, impartial, transparent and thorough investigation to uncover those responsible.

The EU report reveals that, in early December 2024, the Government of Eswatini replied to the European Parliament's concerns.

In its letter, government accused ‘communist interests overseas’ of financing and directing the violent protests that took place in 2021. However, the letter also defended Maseko, describing him as a representative of constructive political forces within Eswatini.

Government urged the members of the European Parliament and the EU as a whole to support initiatives aimed at de-escalating conflict and strengthening democracy in the country.

Despite these calls and public pressure, the EU report notes that, to date, the investigation into Maseko’s murder has not produced concrete results.

The report also refers to incarcerated former MPs Mduduzi Bacede Mabuza and Mthandeni Dube.

It is stated that they have been in prison since July 2021, having had three bail applications rejected.

In July 2024, the High Court handed down sentences of 25 years for Mabuza and 18 years for Dube.

The report notes that the EU expressed concern over these sentences, appealing for a fair trial and transparent appeal processes for both men.

According to the report, the EU has maintained particular interest and presence in the case. It is mentioned in the report that the union observers have been consistently present at the MPs’ court proceedings with the aim of upholding justice, the rule of law and due process.

It is noted that, despite the outward appearance of stability in 2024, Eswatini continues to experience significant polarisation within its society. It is mentioned in the report that this tension is a direct result of the aftermath of the 2021 pro-democracy protests, which shook the country and led to increased scrutiny over government’s handling of dissent and political opposition.

Lawyer says he’s not been allowed to see five immigrants deported by the US to a prison in eSwatini

By Nokukhanya Musi, AP, 1 August 2025

SOURCE

MANZINI: Five immigrants deported by the United States to Eswatini in a secret deal last month had served their criminal sentences before they were sent to be held in a prison in the African country, a lawyer working on their cases said Friday.

The Eswatini lawyer also said the men from Cuba, Jamaica, Laos, Yemen and Vietnam sent to southern Africa under President Donald Trump’s third-country deportation program have been denied access to legal representation while being held in Eswatini’s main maximum-security prison.

The lawyer, Sibusiso Nhlabatsi, said he hasn’t been allowed to see the men and that he filed court papers Thursday against the head of Eswatini’s correctional services department and the country’s attorney general, demanding access to them.

He said he is representing them on behalf of lawyers in the U.S. and was prevented from seeing them by Eswatini prison officials on July 25. It’s unlawful for the men, who have been in Eswatini for around two weeks, to be denied access to a lawyer, he added.

The Eswatini government has said the men will be held in solitary confinement until they can be deported to their home countries, which could take up to a year.

“They have served their sentences,” Nhlabatsi told The Associated Press. “If a person has committed a crime and they have served a sentence, why are you then keeping them in a prison?”

Nhlabatsi said the men have not been able to communicate with their families or receive visitors since arriving in Eswatini, although prison officials said they were in the process of setting up devices to allow them to speak with their families.

South Africa confronts eSwatini over dangerous US prisoners transfer

By Herman Moloi, Sowetan Live (South Africa), 6 August 2025

SOURCE

The SA government has raised alarm about the arrival of a group of dangerous criminals of various nationalities who were deported from the US to Eswatini.

The department of international relations & co-operation (Dirco) said on Tuesday it had raised concerns with the Kingdom of Eswatini about the profile of the individuals and the potential adverse impact on SA’s national security.

The statement came on the back of President Donald Trump implementing punitive 30% tariffs on all SA exports to US. The tariffs regime has sparked fears of job losses in the agricultural sector, with government set to announce measures to support the affected SA companies to look for alternative markets.

On Monday, the government summoned Eswatini high commissioner to SA to express the country’s concern about its accepting of hardened criminals from the US. The move was prompted by reports that about 150 additional criminals were set to be sent to Eswatini by the US.

Measles Rubella campaign launched

By Brian Mabuza. eSwatini Observer, 5 August 2025

SOURCE

The ministry of health has launched a nationwide Measles and Rubella Vaccination Campaign aimed at protecting all children between the ages of 9 to 59 months from vaccine-preventable diseases.

The official launch was held at Moti Clinic under Kholwane Umphakatsi yesterday with support from the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF Eswatini, and World Vision.

The campaign, which will run until 15 August, is set to reach children across all regions, including remote and hard to reach areas.

Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Khanyakwezwe Mabuza, highlighted that the campaign is a critical step in fighting the spread of measles and rubella in Eswatini. He said the country has managed to maintain zero cases in recent years, and the campaign will help sustain this success and further reduce the risk of future outbreaks.

“This is a strategy to reduce the risk of deaths caused by measles and rubella. In 2011 alone, global cases were estimated at 9.7-million, with over 150 000 deaths. We need to immunise our population to prevent such devastation,” Mabuza said.

WHO Representative Dr Susan Tembo emphasised the importance of the campaign, calling it a symbol of national commitment and unity in protecting children’s health.
“Measles is one of the most contagious diseases and can cause lifelong complications or even death if left untreated. Yet it is entirely preventable through vaccination,” she stated.

She applauded the ministry for integrating routine immunisation services into the campaign, including polio vaccines, Vitamin A supplements, and deworming treatments.
The campaign aims to vaccinate all children from 9 to 59 months, regardless of prior vaccination status. Health workers will also identify zero-dose and partially vaccinated children to close immunity gaps.

According to WHO, two doses of the MR vaccine are necessary to achieve adequate protection, as the first dose may not generate full immunity in up to 15% of children.

Prime Minister threatens to arrest vocal Mayiwane lawmaker for questioning absence of Cabinet Ministers during his National Development Plan launch

By Musa Mdluli, Swaziland News, 7 August 2025

SOURCE

MBABANE: Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini has threatened to arrest Mayiwane Member of Parliament (MP) Sicelo ‘KhungaNkhosi’ Dlamini for questioning the absence of Cabinet Ministers during the launch of his Grand Plan for Transformation at the Pigg’s Peak Hotel this week.

This comes after a majority of Cabinet Ministers boycotted the launch of the PM’s development plan after he sidelined them when compiling it, the Prime Minister is currently leading a divided Cabinet and might face a Parliament vote of no confidence.

Reached for comments by this Swaziland News, the Mayiwane MP confirmed receiving a warning from the police shortly after questioning the Prime Minister regarding the absence of the Cabinet Ministers.

“I asked the PM to explain the absence of other Cabinet Ministers, we can’t be launching a national development plan without Cabinet Ministers. But a few hours later, I received a call from the police warning me that the Prime Minister was not happy when I questioned him”, said the Mayiwane MP.

Acting Government Spokesperson Thabile Mdluli declined to comment about the matter.

Calls for urgent reforms as prisons overflow

United Nations Development Programme, 8 July 2025

SOURCE

Eswatini is grappling with severe overcrowding in its correctional facilities, with nine out of the country’s 11 prisons holding inmates who have been detained for more than 12 months without trial. This was revealed in a recent assessment conducted by the Commission on Human Rights, Public Administration and Integrity.

The assessment report launched on 04 July at the UN House in Mbabane, shows that the nine facilities accommodating pre-trial detainees have exceeded their combined capacity of 3,090 by nearly 50 percent. The Commission’s report highlights that while pre-trial detention is intended to ensure the attendance of accused individuals in court, extended periods in detention – particularly without trial – raise significant human rights concerns.

These impacts are especially severe for vulnerable groups such as the indigent, women, children, and juveniles, as prolonged detention exacerbates their hardships and undermines opportunities for rehabilitation.

According to the Assessment of Pre-Trial Detainees in Correctional Facilities in the Kingdom of Eswatini report, the primary cause of prison overcrowding is systemic delays in the judicial process. These delays are attributed to several factors, including:

Pending committals

Expired contracts for judicial officers

Delays in judgments and sentencing

Inefficiencies among legal representatives

Inability to afford bail

Lack of legal representation for accused persons

To address these challenges, the Commission has put forward several recommendations:

Grant full jurisdiction to Magistrates’ Courts for rape and robbery cases (although now Magistrates Courts have been given jurisdiction for these cases)

Implement the Integrated Electronic Case Management System.

Strengthen judicial oversight mechanisms.

Resuscitate the Criminal Justice Sector Forum.

Promote continuous professional development for justice sector actors.

Introduce alternatives to pre-trial detention.

Review the Criminal Procedure and Evidence Act to address the needs of offenders with psychosocial disabilities.

Develop reintegration guidelines for offenders.

Establish a systematic strategy to follow up on cases where co-accused individuals are out on bail

Create consistent processes for handling cases presided over by acting judicial officers

50% of children in eSwatini living in poverty

By Nokwanda Mamba, Swaziland Democratic News, 9 July 2025

SOURCE

MBABANE: More than half of children living in rural Eswatini are suffering from multidimensional poverty, with 51.8% deprived in at least three key areas such as nutrition, health, education, housing, child protection, sanitation, and access to information.

This alarming revelation is part of a Child Poverty Analysis Report released on Wednesday by the Ministry of Economic Planning and Development, with financial backing from the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF).

The report puts the national child poverty rate at 46.6%, with rural children disproportionately affected (51.8%) compared to their urban counterparts (23.1%). Regionally, Lubombo tops the list with 55.4% of children living in poverty, while Hhohho has the lowest rate at 39.5%.

Principal Secretary Thabsile Mlangeni launched the report at the Hilton Garden Inn on Wednesday.

“These are not just statistics, they represent the daily realities and struggles of our children. They also serve as a guiding light to refine policies and better allocate resources,” said Mlangeni, as quoted by Eswatini Positive News.

70% of the population in Eswatini lives below the poverty line, in stark contrast to the lavish lifestyle of the royal family.

AfDB approves $47.5m loan to support eSwatini reforms

APA News, 4 July 2025

SOURCE

The African Development Bank (AfDB) has approved a $47.5 million loan to Eswatini to support urgent economic reforms and address soaring youth unemployment, the bank announced.

The funding will launch the Enhancing Economic Resilience and Competitiveness Programme (EERCP), a two-year initiative aligned with Eswatini’s National Development Plan (2023–2028).

The programme aims to strengthen fiscal sustainability, stimulate private sector-led growth and improve livelihoods in a country grappling with declining gross domestic product (GDP) and mounting fiscal pressures.

AfDB deputy director general for southern Africa Moono Mupotola said the programme was essential at a time Eswatini is navigating “challenging economic conditions while implementing ambitious reforms.”

“Our support will help the Kingdom build fiscal resilience while creating an enabling environment for private sector-led growth that can generate jobs for young people and women,” she said.

Eswatini’s economy faces significant headwinds, with GDP growth declining from five percent in 2023 to an estimated 3.6 percent in 2024, primarily due to the impact of extreme droughts on agricultural output.

The fiscal deficit has widened from 1.5 percent in 2023 to an estimated 1.7 percent in 2024, driven by underperformance in customs revenues and increased public spending pressures.

The EERCP focuses on two pillars: fiscal and public financial management reforms, and competitiveness enhancement to promote inclusive and green growth.

It builds on AfDB’s previous support for economic recovery and includes technical assistance in state-owned enterprise reform, procurement modernization, and gender policy implementation.

Expected outcomes include reduced domestic arrears, increased private sector contribution to GDP, expanded renewable energy share, and improved scores on the AfDB’s Country Policy and Institutional Assessment tool.

EU launches skills programme to tackle youth unemployment in eSwatini

By Press and Information team of the Delegation to eSwatini, 4 July 2025

SOURCE

The European Union (EU) in Eswatini, in partnership with GIZ (German Cooperation Agency), has launched the Skills for Youth Employment and Entrepreneurship in Eswatini (S4YEEE) programme to help tackle youth unemployment in the Kingdom.

Launched on 01 July 2025 in Mbabane, this EU-funded programme worth 14 million Euros (approx. SZL 300 million), aims to contribute to human capital development and social inclusion by strengthening TVET systems to align with labour market demands and national skills needs. The programme particularly focuses on economic development and the inclusion of youth, women, and other disadvantaged groups.

Government representatives present during the launch of the programme, applauded the initiative, noting its potential to position Eswatini among the region’s leaders in TVET excellence and reduce youth unemployment while fuelling entrepreneurship.

Speaking during the launch, EU Head of Cooperation Eva-Maria Engdahl, reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to ensuring that this programme benefits the youth of Eswatini and remains socially inclusive, in line with the EU–Eswatini Multi-Annual Indicative Programme (MIP) 2021–2027.

The programme is funded by the European Union and implemented by the German Cooperation Agency (GIZ) under the WE4D programme. GIZ experts were introduced and shared their extensive regional and international experience. They are in the country to conduct further field work.

The Nurse’s Orders: how a student nurse is turning social media into a lifesaving tool

By Nokukhanya Musi–Aimienoho, Vaccines Work, 4 July 2025

SOURCE

Armed with evidence and a gift for simplifying medical jargon, Meluleki Ndwandwe is on a mission to empower Eswatini’s youth with facts, not fear.

As the sun rises over Eswatini, 21-year-old nursing student Meluleki Ndwandwe sits, hunched over his desk in his university dorm room, uploading posts to social media.

Numerous tabs are open on his screen – research papers and studies on cervical cancer, human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine info sites and health-related news. He has made it his business to post the latest and most accurate information, to catch the youth up on health issues that might affect them.

One recent development he’s broadcasting to his following is the news of the recent extension of the HPV vaccination programme to young women between 15 and 20 years of age. Hitherto, the jab was publicly available only to girls between 9 and 14 years of age.

I noticed that the youth do not listen to traditional radio health shows and are always on social media. Leveraging this newfound community that is literally in the palm of our hands became my first objective.

His aim, he says, is to spread awareness of the importance of vaccination, to clear up misconceptions, and present people with well-substantiated information on which they can base the choices that might save their lives.

Ndwandwe’s social media crusade is responding to a very present threat. Cervical cancer accounts for a staggering 54.6% of all cancer cases among women in Eswatini, with a five-year prevalence of 185 cases per 100,000 women.

Meluleki Ndwandwe

Driven by a personal purpose after observing friends and relatives harmed by health misinformation, he formed an organisation called The Nurse’s Orders, an online consultation service, in 2024, to empower young people through the provision of accurate health information.

“I had the idea for a long time but it was officially implemented last year to disseminate health educational information to the young demographic. I noticed that the youth do not listen to traditional radio health shows and are always on social media. Leveraging this newfound community that is literally in the palm of our hands became my first objective. So I launched our Facebook and YouTube pages,” he shares.

King Mswati must stop shifting blame, Health Minister cannot address shortage of drugs while Monarch spends millions public funds on useless international trips

Opinion by Zweli Martin Dlamini, Swaziland News, 9 July, 2025

SOURCE

King Mswati is fully aware that, this country is struggling with cash flow challenges and his lavish or extravagant lifestyle is contributing to this unfortunate situation.

Cash flow problems in this context, occur when Government spends more money than the generated revenue, leading to difficulty in paying bills or meeting financial obligations and this, is exactly what is helping in this country.

But in the midst of this unfortunate situation, King Mswati used millions of public funds to travel to Ghana in search for witches(batsakatsi) to be used in performing rituals during the Incwala ceremony at the end of the year.

The King subsequently travelled to Spain to attend the International Conference on Financing Development and upon return, he informed the Nation that,he named a cow “Mbabane” saying that would market the country as the cow travels across Europe”.

It was very disappointing to note that, while emaSwati were expecting leadership or direction amid a serious health crisis threatening the existence of this Nation, the King was thrilled to name a Spanish cow-Mbabane.

Personally, I cannot entirely blame Cabinet regarding the health crisis because I’m fully aware that, Mswati is addicted to money, looting and witchcraft, traveling to Ghana and spending millions of public funds just to ‘interview’ witches for his own ritual beliefs while this country is in such crisis, was literally a demonstration that, he doesn’t care or is out of touch with reality.

Billions were stolen in the public coffers by Mswati and his alleged corrupt friend SwaziPharm Director Kareem Ashraff and, if the money was stolen, it means it’s no longer there.

Indeed, there’s a huge possibility that some of the billions are kept within the King’s ‘pockets’ because there was no way this Indonesian alleged corrupt thief could have stolen such huge amounts of money in this country without being arrested if, he was not receiving support, backing or protection from King Mswati who is above the law.

It is therefore unjust, for the King to put pressure on Cabinet or Health Minister Mduduzi Matsebula, where is the money to buy or supply the drugs in public hospitals?.

King Mswati must remember that we are not fools, we know exactly what is happening in this country, the King is rich but emaSwati are poor with no access to medical care.

As a Head of State, he cannot divorce himself from this health crisis, a Health Minister is too junior for this national crisis and it’s the King who must demonstrate leadership and allocate money for the supply of drugs in public hospitals and if need be, he must transfer all the billions he has been stealing, back to public coffers.

It is important to state that, we must provide Health Minister Mduduzi Matsebula all the necessary resources particularly, the money to buy drugs and then demand accountability or criticize him, what is happening now is a fallacy.

We can’t have a King who use millions of public funds to ‘interview’ witches in Ghana while emaSwati die in public hospitals but, he expects us to blame Health Minister Mduduzi Matsebula, the Member of Parliament (MP) from Siphocosini was not even in Cabinet at the time of the looting that triggered the health crisis.

Mduduzi Matsebula must only be blamed for uttering outright lies while emaSwati die in public hospitals, at some point, he was seen off-loading a few boxes saying drugs have been delivered, maybe he was under pressure.

But lies are just lies, whether you lie under oath, pressure or duress, lies must be discouraged and truth must be told so that, emaSwati “can make informed decisions in the midst of the health crisis”.

But what is of paramount importance now and, pending the arrest of SwaziPharm Director Kareem Ashraff and the other alleged multibillion drugs shortage thieves, is the allocation of a sufficient budget for the supply of drugs in public hospitals.
