BAIL HEARING PROTEST - PICTURE

Supporters of imprisoned Swaziland activists Maxwell Dlamini and Musa Ngubeni demonstrate outside the court in Manzini yesterday (6 May 2011) after hearing the much delayed bail application had been postponed another week. A Swaziland denied bail to the two activists, who were arrested in pro-democracy protests last month on charges of illegal possession of explosives.

IS THIS PICTURE OF SWAZI KING A FAKE?

Is this photograph of Swaziland’s King Mswati III with Inkhosikati LaMahlangu a fake?

I ask because I can’t imagine that the Swazi King would be so stupid to allow himself to be photographed in such an undignified pose – with a cheap plastic hat sold to tourists on the streets of London. And his wife has an equally tatty plastic Union Jack flag.

The picture appears today (5 May 2011) on the Swazi Observer website.

The newspaper describes it as a ‘courtesy’ picture – that is one that was given to it free of charge, but does not give the source.

This is the caption the newspaper gave the photograph, ‘MBUBE: His Majesty King Mswati III and Inkhosikati LaMahlangu pose before attending one of Prince William’s wedding functions.’

WHO WAS THAT LADY I SAW YOU WITH?

Who was that lady I saw you with last night? The caption writer for this photo of King Mswati III at the ‘Pre-Royal Wedding’ dinner last night (28 April 2011) didn’t know.

The caption read, ‘Here’s Mswati III, the King of Swaziland arrived with a guest who wore an embroidered gold gown with an unusual cut-out neckline.’

So who was that woman (serious question) is she one of the wives?

UPDATE:

I’m told the lady in question is is Inkhosikati LaMahlangu [Zena Soraya Mahlangu], born 1984 – one of the king’s 13 wives. I’ll leave it to your imagination as to why he chose to take her to the wedding above all the others.
