Swaziland Democracy Campaign will be launched in South Africa
MANZINI- The Swaziland Democracy Campaign (SDC), a product of joint activities between Swazi and South African organisations, will officially be launched next week Sunday.
SDC’s Coordinator, Xolile Thabede said they are continuing to intensify mobilisation, to heighten cross border activity and build a global momentum for democracy in Swaziland.
She said they had already organised several activities on both sides of the border.
In this regard, they were taking forward the work of the South African Chapter following the mandate from the last civil society meeting.
Before the launch, it is expected that there will be a scenario-building seminar on Swaziland that will be held from 19 to 21 of February, in Johannesburg then the launch of the Swaziland Democracy Campaign will be on Sunday February 21.
The launch is expected to be attended by a number of local and South African Organisations that support the call for democracy in Swaziland.
Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Lutfo Dlamini said he was surprised that South Africans were launching campaigns against Swaziland.
He said he was sure that those who were doing this were misinformed and requested them to use government offices to seek clarity and explanation on how Swaziland is governed.
“What I know though is that this is not an initiative of the South African Government because we have very good bilateral relations with them and I personally have a strong relationship with South African Foreign Affairs Minister and if they had a problem with us, I am sure they would have raised it with us,” Dlamini said.
He said those who were starting campaigns against this kingdom should make sure that they use their diplomatic offices to seek clarity on how this country is ruled.
