Teachers in Swaziland have voted to strike indefinitely
from next week, almost certainly closing down schools in the kingdom.
A total of 98.7 percent of Swaziland National Association
of Teachers (SNAT) members who took part in a vote opted for a strike.
The strike for a pay increase of 4.5 percent is due to
start on 13 June.
A previous strike intended for 9 and 10 May had to be
called off after teachers failed to vote to support it.
Principal Secretary of the Swaziland Ministry of
Education and Training Pat Muir said there was little government could do about the strike
if all the proper channels had been followed.
