Raids on the homes of democracy activists in Swaziland have
been taking place throughout today (Wednesday 17 April 2013).
They follow the charging on sedition of Wonder Mkhonza, the
National Organizing Secretary of the banned political party the People’s United
Democratic Movement (PUDEMO).
Mkhonza was allegedly found in possession of 5,000 pamphlets
belonging to PUDEMO. He appeared in court in Swaziland today. He is expected to
file a bail application next week in the High court, in Mbabane.
Reports from prodemocracy activists in Swaziland are that
raids have been taking place on the homes of activists of PUDEMO and its youth
wing, the Swaziland Youth Congress (SWAYOCO).
Police are hoping to find political material from the banned
organisations.
