For those who missed it, here is the report on Swaziland pro-democracy leader Mario Masuku broadcast on the BBC World Service radio programme Network Africa earlier today (17 November 2008).
Masuku, the President of the People’s United Democratic Movement (PUDEMO), is the first person to be charged under the Suppression of Terrorism Act 2008. On Friday (14 November 2008) Swaziland’s illegally-appointed Prime Minister Barnabas Dlamini declared PUDEMO and three other political formations to be terrorist organisations.
According to the BBC, a battalion of police raided Masuku’s home on Saturday without a warrant (as the new terrorism act allows). The report was broadcast before Masuku appeared in court.
