This is a statement from Action for Southern Africa (ACTSA), in support of today’s mass demonstration for democracy in Swaziland.
ACTSA supports mass protest in Swaziland
March 17, 2011
Action for Southern Africa (ACTSA) sends our solidarity and support to the activists in Swaziland who will be peacefully protesting for their democracy and rights in Manzini on Friday, 18th March.
For far too long the people of Swaziland have been denied their fundamental rights. We fully support the demands of the people of Swaziland for decent jobs, education, healthcare, land and democracy now.
We are deeply concerned about the increased harassment and repression of pro democracy activists by the state and call on the government of Swaziland to ensure that demonstrators are allowed to peacefully protest without intimidation or fear.
We will redouble our efforts to raise awareness of the situation in Swaziland in the UK, in Europe and internationally.
