SSN: ‘WE’VE GOT NOTHING TO HIDE’

The Swaziland Solidarity Network (SSN) has responded with scorn to the news yesterday (3 April 1011) that the Swazi Government had asked South Africa’s elite crime busters the Hawks to investigate the organisation and its role in the ‘uprising’ planned in Swaziland for 12 April.

Below is a statement from SSN issued today.

Swazi Government Free to Come and Investigate SSN

04 April 2011

The Sunday Times in South Africa yesterday published a story about the Swazi government's attempts to enlist its South African counterparts in investigating SSN.

We are definitely not surprised by this report.
However, we wish to register our sincere concerns about the sanity of the Swazi officials.

There is clearly something wrong with the mental faculties of people who ban an organization, victimise civil servants and diplomats for meeting with it, and then later secretly investigate it.

Our support for Swaziland's uprising is completely above board. We have never hidden our agenda. Ours is not an NGO that was created to provide employment to its full time workers. Our objective is to help Swazis liberate themselves as soon as possible.

To save the South African government the embarrassment of being suspected of aiding despots, we are publicly inviting the Swazi government to come to our offices for a fact finding mission. This, we hope, will give them a much more dignified and sincere way to obtain the information that they already have, which is that we are giving all necessary support to the April 12 uprising.
