James Hall is well known in Swaziland for his Golden Lion Film Festival and also for the articles he writes on AIDS for the Swazi Observer.
Here’s a review of a book he wrote called ‘Sangoma: My Odyssey into the Spirit World of Africa’, a personal account of being the first white person to undergo training to be a sangoma, or a Swazi shaman.

James Hall's book Sangoma leaves me with tears streaming down my face, even after over a dozen readings. His experience makes you feel more connected to the earth and humanity!
Anything but the "first white man swazi sangoma". There are hundreds of white sangomas in South Africa and have been since the 18th century. I myself was trained as a swazi sangoma in 1982. Hall would definitely know he's not the first - so take anything he says with a pinch of salt.
