Swaziland’s King Mswati III has no shame when it comes to flaunting wealth.
The Times Sunday reports today (14 September 2008) that the King has been seen in a brand new BMW X6 car, worth about E773,000 (about 110,000 US dollars).
The King has been under heavy criticism this week for spending holding a lavish party last weekend which some estimates say cost as much as 10 million US dollars (E70 million).
The 40/40 celebration was to mark the King’s 40th birthday and also the 40th anniversary of Swaziland’s independence from Britain.
The lavish spending comes at a time when seven in ten Swazis live in abject poverty earning less than one dollar a day. Six in ten people have had to rely on international food aid this year and four in ten are said to be moving from hunger towards starvation.
Last month it was reported that King Mswati III has a net worth of about 200 million dollars
