SWAZI MEDIA COMMENTARY

The number of people visiting the Swazi Media Commentary blogsite has increased by a factor of ten in the past month.

I’m guessing, but I suspect much of this is due to the increased interest there has been in Swaziland in recent weeks. This has been mostly because of the 40/40 celebrations (and the protests within Swaziland about them) and the election that takes place next Friday (19 September 2008).

Whatever the reason for first visiting Swazi Media Commentary, it is clear that many of these new visitors are returning to the site again and again.

So I’d like to take a moment to introduce the site to the newcomers. Swazi Media Commentary started in July 2007 with the intention of exploring the state of the media in Swaziland with particular reference to the way media practitioners do (or do not) adhere to their own code of ethical conduct.

Swazi Media Commentary still does this, but its interest has widened over the past year to include matters relating to human rights and civil liberties in Swaziland. I suspect many of the new visitors are more interested in these last two topics than in media practice.

There are now nearly 500 posts on the site and it might be a bit difficult for newcomers to find their way around, so here’s a quick tour.

Some of the most ‘popular’ topics on the site can be reached by clicking on the following words.

40/40 CELEBRATION

DEMOCRACY

ELECTIONS

HIV AIDS

KING MSWATI III
