SWAZI TOURISTS VIOLENCE WARNING

There have been several reports in the Swazi media this week about how tourism in the kingdom is booming and how it’s about to get better.

This past weekend a group of foreign journalists who write on travel matters were wined and dined in some style in Swaziland. The idea was to get them to write favourably about Swaziland in their publications.

What a pity then that all this activity should coincide with a warning sent out by the UK Government to travellers intending to go to Swaziland.

The latest message just received highlights the 40/40 celebrations and the election that is taking place next week.

The UK Government says, ‘We strongly advise visitors to avoid large gatherings which, if regarded as unauthorised demonstrations, could be dispersed by the Police Authorities using a degree of force, possibly involving firearms as in the past.’

I just love the casual way it talks about firearms.

I think we shouldn’t expect to see too many visitors from the UK anytime soon.
